We were commissioned by an existing building contractor client to design and install a plumbing and heating system for this exclusive new build property being built for a private homeowner in Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield.

The property had seven bedrooms over three floors and featured 5 bathrooms and en-suites. Being a new build the property lent itself naturally to underfloor heating so a wet system was utilised on the ground floor prior to the laying of the floor screed. A standard radiator central heating system was installed on the 1st and 2nd floor. We specified a Viessmann 35kw system boiler complete with 10 year warranty and 300l unvented cylinder to provide the heating and hot water requirements.

In addition to the underfloor heating, central heating, boiler and unvented cylinder we designed and installed all the 1st fix hot and cold pipework as well as the soil and waste stacks. Finally after plastering we returned to 2nd fix the 5 bathroom installations, test, commission and certify the system.

Our client and homeowner were very pleased with the installation and subsequent performance of the system. So much so that we later received the order to replace the boiler within the homeowner’s (a GP), Dr’s Practice!

High Hot Water Flow Rate Solution

Our customer required a high hot water flow rate at their home, which was undergoing a large extension and renovation to what was already a large detached property in Brownhills. The completed property would have 3 bath/shower rooms and ideally would have benefited from an unvented cylinder. But due to the limited size of the incoming water mains (15mm) and a tight budget we suggested an ATAG Economiser Combination Boiler. The Atag Economiser features a built in flue gas heat recovery device (FGHR) which pre-heats the incoming cold water to the boiler with waste heat picked up from the boiler flue, this reduces the work the boiler has to do to heat the water and results in fantastic hot water flow rates and increased energy efficiency.

As part of the installation, the properties old, inefficient gas boiler and hot water cylinder was removed, together with installing new radiators to the extension, significantly increasing the size of the central heating system. The existing system was powerflushed using our Magnacleanse unit, removing a substantial amount of sludge and debris which would have impacted on the new boiler. To protect the boiler in the future and honour ATAG’s significant 10 year warranty a top quality brass system filter was also fitted.

The new 35kw ATAG boiler was installed in the garage, saving on precious space by not installing an unvented cylinder not to mention the increased associated costs.

Our client now boast an efficient hot water and heating system fit for the 21st century and made a healthy saving due our specification of the ATAG Economiser.
